Resolutions … yada yada yada


Oh my! 2013 is here and my list of resolutions is still in draft form. One item that is the typical suspect on a New Year’s resolution list is exercise. The older I get the more I understand the importance of regular exercise. I’m not talking about becoming Ernestine Shepherd, even though I find her story quite motivating, I’m talking about being functionally fit. I’m still working on what that looks like both in exercise and eating healthy. I want to create a realistic plan that will work for me.

In the mean time, I found this list of exercises we’d be better off leaving behind in 2013.

– Jumping on the bandwagon.

– Beating your head against the wall.

– Beating your own drum.

– Dragging your heels.

– Jumping to conclusions.

– Grasping at straws.

– Fishing for compliments.

– Throwing your weight around.

– Passing the buck.

-Repeating excuses.

Seriously. To me, healthy living is at the center of the target for 2013. I don’t think the rest of my resolutions will be successful without it. I’m not standing still while I figure out what will work best for me. I’m working on doing something that points to my healthy living goal everyday. What plans do you have for 2013?

  1. Eating healthier and getting fitter are both relative compared to last year. One less Oreo and an extra mile. By getting rid of the “er”, you are setting an absolute goal, pretty ambitious!

    Seriously, both are great goals and very similar to my own. I like your list…

  2. I too like the list. All things that should definitely be left behind.

    I personally do not make resolutions. I think it adds undue pressure so I just typically try to do the right things and make the right choices and see how it plays out.

    Sure I would like to lose about 5-10 lbs but I will not resolve to do it. I’ll just see how it goes and hope I remain healthy.

    Having said that I shall say good luck with your resolutions. I am confident you can accomplish your goals with a little determination.

  3. Ive never been so large but I am all set if I get stuck in a snow cave. Lots of insulation is good for the cold and I can live off my own body in case I have no access to food.

    I am planning more Bike and Hike Experiences when I ride on my cycle this year. Instead of riding to the ice parlor, I plan I riding to a nice trail to hike. Hopefully this will help with my wight issue.

    I have read that is is healthier to be a bit on the plump side. This will allow you to recover more quickly if you become sick as you have more “reserves” and able to ward off germs more easily. Rapid shifts in weight are not good for you. Better to maintain and try to eat the healthiest food you can, and in moderation

    Eating healthy is a lifestyle choice, but also you can binge once in a while too

  7. Am not so much a “resolutions” person..and that’s because am never that committed to accomplish them. So I set goals as I go. That list of exercises was interesting. Can’t stop laughing (the things we do subconsciously)

  8. I couldn’t agree with you more. Without health, life is emply, and as we age, it’s all the more important to maintain it. I take several steps, all the time, to improve and sustain my health and hopefully my longevity. Good post.
