The Smells of Fall

Fall has descended on Minnesota. Cool weather, rain, leaves turning colors, pulling out the sweaters … and making homemade applesauce!

Backyard apples simmering with spices

I scored a bunch of backyard apples from a coworker this week. Back in the day, when I was rather domestic, I’d go to the orchard for a bushel apples. I would cook them up and my family would enjoy all sorts of apple delights for months and months.

I don’t remember the last time I made homemade applesauce … oh the smell of the spices simmering with those apples is intoxicating. What do you like about fall?

Fall has Arrived

View from my back door.

The leaves are dropping quickly and so are the temperatures. Looking forward to autumn fires.

Autumn Fires
by Robert Louis Stevenson

In the other gardens
And all up the vale,
From the autumn bonfires
See the smoke trail!

Pleasant summer over
And all the summer flowers,
The red fire blazes,
The grey smoke towers.

Sing a song of seasons!
Something bright in all!
Flowers in the summer,
Fires in the fall!
