Manifesto. Do you have one?

Here’s a great place to start!

Happy International Women’s Day

Ladies you’ve been such a pleasure to meet and feature here on my blog! Today is our day, International Women’s Day. I hope you take time to celebrate what a special creation we are.

P.S. I’d still like to profile female motorcyclists! If you are interested in sharing your story drop me an email at pamela(dot)court(at)gmail(dot)com and I’ll send over the questions! xoxo

Fall in Minnesota

The snow isn’t going to last long with temperatures going into the forties, but it sure is beautiful! Be careful my fellow Minnesotans it is slick out there!

What we have here is a failure to communicate!

This is a pretty humorous view on communication between a man and a woman. Enjoy!

To Courageous Mothers

To the courageous mothers the world over. Happy Mother’s Day!

What gift did your mom give you? Here’s an old post I wrote as a tribute to my mom.

How to Reinvent Yourself

Did I get your attention? Do you ever think things will never change? Well mark the calendar. One year from now you will have replaced 98% of all the atoms in your body. True Story. Every five days your stomach lining is replaced. Your skin replaces it’s self approximately every month … your liver in six weeks … and your skeleton in three months. Now that is change!

Got your body covered. What about your mind? “Be careful what you think because your thoughts run your life” is an old Proverb I read frequently. Did you know we have about 50,000 thoughts a day and today’s thoughts are about 98% of the same as the day before. So, unless I intentionally stop and/or change my thoughts nothing is going to change.

I recently started training (way early) for The Color Run 5K that takes place in July using the C25K app. Why so early? Because I didn’t think I could do it. BUT, I put this up on the white board next to my treadmill, “Quit thinking why you can’t and start thinking why you can!” I just completed week 8 of training which consistes of a five minute warm-up, jog 28 minutes then a five minute cool down. Yup. Something I’ve never EVER done in my life and I’m old (getting closer to 60 than 50). What changed? My mind.

What is Happening to me?

Well I’ve gone and done it now. I’ve signed up for a 5K in July. What was I thinking?! First of all, July in Minnesota is HOT. Secondly, a 5K is about three miles and I can’t even run around the block. Thirdly, at my age? Fourthly, did I mention July’s hot weather, I don’t run or jog, and I’m almost closer to 60 that 50? Oy vay.

The 5K I signed up for is The Color Run | Minnesota. The run will be in over 100 cities across the USA. The first run is today down in Florida and the last race is November 2 in Little Rock, Arkansas. To find a city near you check here. The run supports a charity. The Minnesota charity is Open your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless. Check out this fun video of race highlights:

As of today I have 27 weeks to prepare. Theoretically, it sounds like enough time even for a couch potato like me. So where does one start? You download an App! My choice, C25K Pro Guy Hoffman. It takes you from the couch to a 5K in nine weeks. Three days a week it takes you through timed walking/jogging intervals. I’m doing this on the treadmill because it is not the time of year to be out doing this outside.

I also popped for a pair of ASICS Gel-Kayano 18 Running Shoes in pink.

So now I have a goal with a date, a plan to get there, and shoes! Are you doing anything crazy?

Snow Rider

Just reminding myself the snow is coming soon!

Living in Minnesota it is only a matter of time before the snow flies. Some creative person created this Snow Rider and is a good reminder the snow will come, but it is followed by Spring!

Fall has Arrived

View from my back door.

The leaves are dropping quickly and so are the temperatures. Looking forward to autumn fires.

Autumn Fires
by Robert Louis Stevenson

In the other gardens
And all up the vale,
From the autumn bonfires
See the smoke trail!

Pleasant summer over
And all the summer flowers,
The red fire blazes,
The grey smoke towers.

Sing a song of seasons!
Something bright in all!
Flowers in the summer,
Fires in the fall!

Preparing for the Chunky Monkey’s Visit!

I’ve been a wee bit distracted lately. I’m preparing for my grandson a.k.a. Chunky Monkey, daughter, and favorite son-in-law (don’t tell him, but he’s my only son-in-law) upcoming visit!

The kids are flying in this weekend so I need to get a few things to prepare to have a baby in the house. I had my daughter send me a list of things to borrow: high chair, pack-n-play, rear facing car seat, and the like! Good thing I don’t work with people my age!! Thankfully my coworkers are supplying me with all the necessities both large and small.

Tonight I spent the evening learning how to use this contraption!

Don’t be fooled by its simplicity!

I did manage to get the Pack-n-Play open and stable so that’s ready to go! I don’t know if I could have ever gotten the car seat in place without help. I’m very grateful when my coworker offered to install that bad boy in my back seat. A gymnastic feat was involved in securing the straps. All that’s left to do is to buy some diapers, wipes, and a whole lot of Cheerios!
